Tempest Storm
Empire Burlesque sessions
NYC & Hollywood, CA July 1984-April 1985
Bob's Boots Review: This CD is a copy of a 1994CD from 'Wanted Man' entitled 'Outside The Empire' The tape hiss has been very slightly lowered, but it is basically the same release. It was also issued by Theramin. There are some great songs here that should be in the collection of all fans of outtake material. The highlight is New Danville Girl. It's an earlier version of Brownsville Girl with altered lyrics. The package and aesthetics are wonderful. The front photo is nice, though not particularly flattering. It was taken by Dave Siviour at the July 05, 1984 Newcastle performance.

This is a great release containing many outtakes from the Infidel sessions, and it's interesting to think of how much better the album could have been if he had included some of these.

Blown Out on the Trail
Jones Beach 1988
Bob's Boots Review: Fantastic soundboard recording of the entire Jones Beach show. The performance is amazing. This is one to own. As for the filler, Bridge is a soundboard, but not the quality of Jones Beach. Still, the performance is great. Five great songs from the NY fairground show top off the second disc.

Deeds Of Mercy
Oh Mercy outtakes
Studio On The Move, New Orleans, LA1989 March
Bob's Boots Review: A wonderful set. If you are an Oh Mercy, and/or studio outtake material fan, this oneis not to be missed. There is a tape hiss from this 2nd generation mix console recording. It has been suggested that it was recorded 'through the air' with an open mic. If this is the case, however, it is a super clean recording (save for the hiss) that sounds like a board recording. Don't let this minor white noise problem hinder your enjoyment of this newly released material.

Knoxville Grail
Civic Auditorium, Knoxville, TN, February 5, 1980
Bob's Boots Review: Excellent audience recording of a great early 80s show. Bob's voice is up front, and powerful. The song versions don't stray far from the released studio versions, but are every bit as powerful... if not more so. The only slightly weak spots are perhaps Precious Angel and Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking. They are played faster than the studio version, and seem to loose their grandeur. Perhaps the highlight is What Can I Do For You? Even though the final harp solo goes a tad sour, Bob truly pours his heart into this one. The audience is respectful. The few shouts and hollers add to the "gospel tent revival" feeling of the show. If you like the gospel releases, you will love this set. The bonus material is from a direct line recording of the TV broadcast in great quality.
